Gail Holst is a writer, musician, and lecturer in Greek literature at Cornell University. In Greece she played with the composers Mikis Theodorakis and Dionysios Savvopoulos.
She is the author of "Theodorakis: Myth and politics in modern Greek music" and "Dangerous voices: Women's laments and greek literature", and the translator of "The complete poems of Nikos Kavvadias", "Achilles' fiancee" by Alki Zei and "Mauthausen" by Iakovos Kambanellis.
